Hi Happy New Year everyone, its been a good one so far for me! I am glad to be back in London :).
I am being mentored by an ex lcc Norwegian guy called Timon Botez who is really nice and I think I am going to learn a lot from him. This is his website -

http://www.botezco.com/

I am also working on a d&ad brief and a project of my own, and Timon has agreed to help me to realize my ideas -by teaching me such software as PureData, so hopefully I will be able to get my soldering iron out and get my hands dirty!

I am learning CAD at college on saturdays and I am hoping to start helping out at Print Club again, as I would like to start a portfolio of prints and t-shirts.

help!!

I cannot believe what happened. I am sooooo embarrassed. Has anyone ever attended an interview 2 weeks in advance? Thats exactly what I did this morning... I want to curl into a ball!
I have to go back there in 2 weeks to attend it. Any advice or words of wisdom from anyone?

First impressions count right so do I look completely unprofessional now?!!

:(

things are moving along

Well I just had a meeting with the creative director at Time Out mag this morning, it went really well, and I start in March for a month! And I also have a meeting with Dorling & Kindersley some time next week, any one worked there already?? If yes, do you have any tips?

Currently I am still at Misha's with Danielle and all is going well!! Last week some of the spreads I designed for a book was published, so am really pleased and excited! We have also been working on a new logo and stationary system for a company, its been really interesting to see the process, because I haven't done it very often!!

I'm also taking part in the yound design programme, so I have been alocate d a group, 2 students are from LCC and 1 studnet is from cambewell. Even though we all live relatively close to one another, organising group meetings has so far not been easy as well all have different time tables! But later today we are having our first group meeting to prepare for a presenatation next week.

Speak soon! x shumina x

New Year update

I suppose I'd better update - it's been a while!

Well, I'm a bit disappointed because all the things I'd expected to be doing this month have fallen through, simply because people take so long to confirm stuff, and now the dates they've offered me coincide with other things so I shall have to start them later. Very frustrating. Luckily, lots of freelance stuff has come up, but I'm really itching to get back into a studio - I don't find working from home as exciting.

I'm doing an hour-long VJ thing for a couple of dubstep producers on Sunday (at Exit in Shoreditch) but will run it on autopilot because I wouldn't have a clue how to do it live! I've also been doing some web design for Universal and Ninja Tune, which came about because my boyfriend's doing work experience for music companies.

I'm in the middle of a pretty exciting animation project with one of the directors from Bermuda Shorts (my first music video!), but he's busy with other things so it's going a bit slowly at the moment. And I'll start my internship with Dorling Kindersley on 2nd February.

I'd be really interested to hear how everyone else from Moving Image is getting on, or anyone else who's found placements in that area.
Let me know! Thanks, Amy.x

Quick question...

Hey,

How do you (those of you who have) put a link up to your portfolio/website on here. I'd like to put my web address up...

I hope you are all well. I am still at Anikst Design, working on lots of books and loving it. This may well be the career for me! Misha is an excellent teacher/boss - my compositional skills have vastly improved and my typography is on the way up! I have been asked to stay even longer, but we shall see what comes along...

Take care,

Danielle

Early morning and I am walking through the Cottesloe stage door. A kind lady is showing me the way to the paint frame. I will work in the middle of the labyrinth and eat my lunch trying to figure out who is an actor and who is really a carpenter.

Tomorrow I will try to find my way into the labyrinth again. Maybe I will get lost and end up amongst queens and horses, or maybe amongst the costumes where the most unusual creatures can suddenly appear.

This week I am helping out with the set for Burnt by the Sun at the National Theatre.

In February I will start a two months work placement with Sky Creative, where I will mainly focus on animation and idents.

I would like to thank the AAA foundation (Sweden), because I recently found out that they have decided to sponsor part of my year in industry. Without their financial support I could only dream of experiencing what I do now.

Last year I carried out an internship with the Brand Union and I also volunteered for the London Design Festival. I worked for a few months folding clothes, while dreaming about helping out at the National Theatre. Today was my first day.

Hello, it sounds like everyone is doing really well so far. I have really enjoyed the year out up to now, I started in September working for The Brand Union which was originally supposed to be for two weeks. I was working on a number of different projects, Vodafone, Barclaycard, AXA and some internal work as well and they asked me to stay an additional fortnight to help with a new project which I can't say too much about at the moment, perhaps we will see some of the work in a years time.

After that I went straight to Nick Bell Design where I am still, I have been working on a few projects, one wrapping up an identity for a Russian company and at the moment I am working on an exhibition project for the Post Office which is really good fun, it's also slightly daunting as I'm the only designer working on the project full-time. I'm staying at Nick Bell until March when I am off to New York with Kathryn for five weeks. No plans for the rest of the year as of yet.

Here is some work I did for Vodafone at The Brand Union, a look at creating a set of icons for their corporate offices.

Charlie Hocking

Hey guys, happy new year. Just a quick one to let you know that I have finally finished my website. Its up now at www.charliehocking.co.uk so please check it out and hit me up with any feedback. I would love love to hear what you think, good or bad.  Anyway, hope your all well and having fun.

Paul & Jems year so far.

Hi Guys... Happy new year and i hope everyone is doing good. My (Paul) year started with developing my T-shirt printing project which was really fun, I set up a screen printing studio in my garage and begun selling on the brick lane sunday up-market and at various charity/art events and christmas markets- highlight was selling 10 t-shirts to oscar winning actress Vanessa Redgrave! I then did 2 weeks work experience for The Brand union and worked on briefs for Argos, Barclay Card and Vodafone...short time there but i learnt alot and made some good contacts.

Hey everyone! Happy New Year etc ect :) All is well with me (Jem), so my year so far... Began with getting involved with Alex's Type specimen project down in letterpress which was really fun. I worked on creating an experimental research book about the tourments and consequences for those suffering from Alzeimers using Gill typeface, and attended the following talk at St Brides Library where Alan Kitching gave a lecture. Following i spent time making changes to portfolio etc, and working in London to save up for my travel plans this year.

So presently Paul and myself are in Delhi working at Wieden + Kennedy, been here 5 weeks now and is going really well. Been working on a brief for IndiGo airline where we were asked to find ways to make IndiGo 'greener' (pretty tough being an airline and slighllty ironic after our eurostar project!) Anyways our work was presented to the client who have given the go ahead to impliment some of our designs and ideas throughout the airline which is really exciting! Had some time off over christmas and new year so travelled India...Went to Goa for new years eve which was wild and got to see Mumbai before returning to Delhi.

We head to Australia end of next week to continue with more internships. After Oz we go to Vietnam and San Francisco and have loosely planned to be returning to London in May but who knows!
